Asheville revealed its three finalists for the top city police post in a public meet-and-greet occasion on Dec. 17. The finalists are: James Nolette, assistant cops chief in Fayetteville(a city of 210,000 with a police of 608 )David Zack, police chief in Cheektowaga, New York (a town of 88,000 with

  • a force of 250)Maurice Robinson, a captain in the Cincinnati Cops Department (covering a city of 300,000 with a force of 1,154 workers

    ) Here’s what we understand about them.

    James Nolette According to a city-provided bio, Nolette has been

    assistant chief in Fayetteville since Might, overseeing the Field Operations Bureau and accountable for 400 staff members. Prior to rising to this function, he was a major and leader of the Specialized Solutions Bureau for more than a year; a captain and division leader for the Campbellton Patrol District for about a year and a half; and captain and executive officer for a year. He’s been with Fayetteville PD since 1999.

    Education: Master’s in pubic administration from UNC Pembroke, bachelor’s degree from Campbell University.

    Military background: Sergeant in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Department, 782nd Main Assistance Battalion. Professional honors: In 2014, he was one of 10 receivers of the LEADS Scholar National Institute of Justice Research Study Scholarship Award. He has worked for Cincinnati PD considering that 2002. Other functions he’s held at CPD include Planning Area Leader and Unique Examinations Section Commander.

    Education: Master’s degree in criminal justice from University of Cincinnati and a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Kentucky University.

    Professional groups: Active in the Southern Ohio chapter of the National Company of Black Law Enforcement Executives. Past careers: Worked as an instructor, life insurance coverage sales representative and account marketing representative with IBM and AT&T. In 2017, Robinson was one of 15 applicants for the authorities chief task in Fairfield Town, Ohio, outside of Cincinnati, according to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer. In 2018, amid racial tensions in the department, Robinson was among a handful of African American officers who were thought about for an open assistant chief post.

    David Zack The city of Asheville’s bio says Zack has been chief of the Cheektowaga Authorities Department, just east of Buffalo, N.Y., for nine years. Before becoming chief, Zack was captain over the Investigative Division. He’s been in the department since 1987. Education: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Hilbert College. Other functions: He is a trainer at Hilbert and the University of Tennessee National Forensic Academy.

    Expert groups: President of Erie County Chiefs of Police Association and is on the executive committee of the Mid-Size Agency Division of the International Association of Chiefs of Authorities.
