ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA)– Asheville Police Department officials said among their officers was charged and suspended following an usage of force event back in February.
According to a police news release, Elder Policeman Anthony Sorangelo, in addition to several other officers, responded to a require service in regard to a drunk male lying on Hendersonville Road on Feb. 11.
Cops said during the arrest, the guy supposedly ended up being agitated and combative while Sorangelo assisted him into the patrol automobile.
According to the release, force was utilized throughout the male’s arrest.
The use of force during the occurrence was reported and after reviewing the case, Chief David Zack identified that a criminal examination was necessary and notified the district attorney.
According to the release, the district lawyer’s workplace then asked for that the State Bureau of Examination conduct an independent examination into making use of force case.
“The completed SBI examination was submitted to the District Attorney last week,” according to the release. “After evaluation of the investigation products, the District Lawyer requested the SBI to charge SPO Sorangelo with misdemeanor basic attack.”
