John-Paul Nelson, daddy of the late Kevon Tyshawn Ailes, stated his kid returned from time in prison and was working to be an excellent father when he was killed the night of June 23 in Walton Street Park, less than a mile south of his home.

“Everybody has a past. He did his time. He came home to take care of his boy,” said Nelson on June 24 a day after the triple shooting at the park that claimed Ailes’ life and wounded two others. A day prior, on June 22, another male had been shot numerous times.

Nelson spoke from the front yard of the house where he coped with Ailes and Ailes’ mom, Demetria.

He stated, “‘I have to be here for my child. I have to be here for my siblings.’ I stated, ‘I take pride in you.'”
