March 6 looks like a life time back when we left for spring break and didn’t return for nearly 6 months. No one would have forecasted that 2020 would be so challenging. I am permanently grateful to the school board, administration, and staff who have actually been so fantastic working with students since March to ensure they continued to learn.
Learning never stopped with Mount Airy City Schools as we worked remotely with every student to make certain they didn’t get behind this spring. We were also able to continue with sports in person this summer and face-to-face summer season programs with more than 400 trainees on our schools. This made a huge difference in our neighborhood to ensure learning continued. We owe it to our households to make certain students are totally prepared for their brilliant futures.
We are now going back to the school buildings and we wish to make certain we learn where trainees are academically, mentally, and socially. We have extra social-emotional supports in location because a lot of our trainees have been at house for numerous months. A universal screener with interventions assists us discover which trainees might need the most support. Our company believe our staff are the very best remedy for the issues lots of students are dealing with. Our caring personnel is striving to make sure all students have what they require to continue learning and growing as we get in the school buildings. The relationships they have had throughout this crisis continue on to this brand-new year.
Seventy-five percent of our trainees have picked to come back in person this fall. We know that in person is the very best method to provide education for our families. We believe that the remote alternatives we are offering through C.L.A.S.S.– Customized Learning Anytime/Anywhere for Trainee Success– are fantastic options for the 25%, around 425 trainees, that have actually chosen to discover in your home. Each of our online choices links our trainees with a highly qualified teacher that provides lessons as if they were physically in our buildings. We know that numerous families might select to join us physically when they are all set and we are getting ready for their return.
August 17 was an exciting day for us to start back in our school buildings. Returning to school in 2020 has some obstacles. We know that we should keep up social-distancing, using masks, cleaning our hands, and sterilizing our structures. We know that we need to continue to have less students on our school buses and serve meals in safe ways to ensure we continue following health and wellness protocols. We understand that we must take health and wellness seriously and work carefully with our health department.
Everyone in the neighborhood can help us by wearing a mask, waiting 6 feet from others, preventing big crowds, and washing their hands. This will assist us keep our numbers low and keep students in school. Everybody can do their part.
The quotes from students really tell the story about why it’s so important for trainees to come back to the school structure. One child said that she enjoyed SeeSaw (our K-2 online platform) but she enjoyed school better. A high schooler stated he was really excited to get back to school, a normal regular, and to see his pals and instructors. An intermediate classroom told me, “We can do this and we can do it together.” My heart is complete for our students and personnel that we are continuing to find out and grow together.
Educators are the reason we have the ability to teach trainees anywhere, anytime. If you see an instructor or a school staff member please make a point to thank them for their commitment to students, their additional effort to teach this year, their patience with processes, and their ability to browse innovation to deliver a world class education to the students of Mount Airy. State a prayer for all educators and vote in the succumb to public authorities that will back additional pay and support for teachers and allocate the cash required for education to thrive.
Our Back to School 2020 strategy is updated frequently. We have a terrific site and social networks presence so the general public can be a part of our instructional journey. Please spend some time and take a look at all the terrific things MACS provides for trainees, even during difficult times.
